Middle School Yearlong Electives

SPANISH I

This yearlong course will continue to develop the Spanish language skills cultivated within our elementary program, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as an appreciation of the Hispanic culture.

*Course is also offered as a zero period option.

SPANISH II

PRE-REQUISITES:Teacher Recommendation, Spanish I

This yearlong course will provide students with the opportunity to develop strong Spanish language skills, and will focus on vocabulary, grammar, and conversational skills. Intermediate Spanish or well-developed Spanish language skills is a pre-requisite for this course.

CHINESE I

This yearlong beginning course in Mandarin Chinese will focus on the development of student listening and speaking skills, with a lesser emphasis on reading and writing. The study of the Chinese culture will provide an enriched context for learning the Mandarin Chinese language.

CHINESE II

PRE-REQUISITES: Having a passing grade for Chinese I and teacher recommendation

This yearlong beginning course in Mandarin Chinese will focus on the development of student listening and speaking skills, with a lesser emphasis on reading and writing. The study of the Chinese culture will provide an enriched context for learning the Mandarin Chinese language.

CHINESE III

 

This yearlong advanced course in Mandarin Chinese will focus on the continued development of student listening and speaking skills, with a lesser emphasis on reading and writing.  The study of the Chinese culture will provide an enriched context for learning the Mandarin Chinese language. PRE-REQUISITES: Teacher Recommendation, CHINESE II

 

MID KNIGHTS ORCHESTRA

 

For 6th-8th graders who have played 1+ years or who are switching to another instrument, this class is offered during the school day. Students will receive more concentrated instruction one on one on their instrument as the class is offered. Students will also learn to compose, arrange, edit and learn about music technology in connection with their instrument.   5 days a week for 40 minutes for a traditional letter grade.

 

BLUE KNIGHTS ORCHESTRA

 

 (Audition Only)  This top playing group is for students who have been playing for 2+ years and is offered during the school day. Students will receive more concentrated instruction on their instrument as well as performing with a group. Students will also learn to compose, arrange, edit and learn about music technology in connection with their instrument. Students are required to attend certain on-campus performances as well as audition for off campus performing opportunities. This class is offered 5 days a week for 40 minutes for a traditional grade. SHOW CHOIR

PRE-REQUISITE: Teacher Recommendation

This vocal music class competes and performs at competitions, assemblies and school events throughout the year. Dance moves are incorporated into the wide-range of music performed. Students selected for this class must pass a vocal audition.

YEARBOOK

(Eighth Grade Only)

This course is a zero period class that meets each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. This is a yearlong class where students will use technology to design and develop this year's school yearbook.
