A Wonderful Celebration for St. Anne Mothers

St. Anne School mothers were celebrated in many special ways this week. On Wednesday, mothers were welcomed on campus with a rose and a delicious cinnamon roll before heading to the Queen of Life Center for the annual Mother’s Day Chapel.

After readings from students and a poignant homily from Father Damien, Kindergarten students sang “I Love You So Much” to those gathered, and all of the Early Child Development Center students sang “You Are My Sunshine,” “God Made Adam,” and “Little Mama” under the direction of Pre-Kindergarten teacher Cherryl Richardson.

Head of School Steven Cunningham then took to the podium to say some kind words about mothers and introduced Spencer Averitt who read a moving speech in honor of his mother, Samarah Averitt, who was awarded the 2019 St. Anne School Mary Mother of God Award.

During the ceremony, grade 2 students who recently received their First Holy Communion, and those who will be this spring, were recognized and congratulated. The students honored Mary in a May Crowning Ceremony, a tradition that recognizes that we honor our Heavenly Mother because we love Jesus.

To end the ceremony, the St. Anne HarmonKnights sang “Because You Were There,” Fr. Damien gave the birthday blessing, and St. Anne Angel Melissa Mazzacavallo presented 40 blankets assembled by parent volunteers to Fr. Damien for a blessing. The blankets will be delivered to Catholic charities this month. Mr. Cunningham also recognized the 2018-2019 St. Anne Knights’ Parent Association Board and presented the 2019-2020 Board.

After Chapel, ECDC moms journeyed to classrooms for the start of the “Mommy & Me Tea.” Moms received homemade gifts, special refreshments, fun, and fellowship. St. Anne’s littlest Knights also hosted a Mommy & Me Tea Party with a stay-n-play afterwards.
