The St. Anne School grade 8 Class of 2019 walked down the isle of the Queen of Life Center on Tuesday evening to be recognized for their scholarship, accomplishments, and readiness to embark on their high school career and their next level of goals and aspirations.

The 69 graduates will move on to attend schools such as JSerra Catholic High School, Santa Margarita Catholic High School, St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, Dana Hills High School, and San Juan Hills High School, among others.

The evening ceremony included a scripture reading by Kathleen Kraiss, followed by a meditation by Father Damien. Laguna Niguel Mayor John Mark Jennings also attended the event and let the graduates know that if they work hard, they will build a positive future for themselves and their loved ones.

Head of School Steven Cunningham opened his speech to the Class of 2019 with a quote from Mother Teresa: “Love begins by taking care of the closest ones - the ones at home.”

He went on to say, “One hallmark of St. Anne School is that it is very much a home. A home that shares the values of the household and the school. A home where all belong, and all members of the family matter. This sense of home is a great blessing to each and every one of us.”

He spoke of the Beatitudes and the infallible gift of wisdom that Jesus gave at the Sermon on the Mount. Mr. Cunningham told the graduates that a continuous desire for justice and moral perfection will lead one to a fulfillment of that desire - a transition and conversion to truth and goodness, and that if you desire justice, you will go far.

Mr. Cunningham ended his speech with words of wisdom from Saint Teresa of Calcutta:
“It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us.
It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.”

“Thank you for making your mark on the home that is St. Anne School. God bless you all and may you make your mark in every home you encounter on your journey.”
