St. Anne Students Take 1st through 3rd in Post-Level Patriot's Pen Competition

The Patriot's Pen is a nationwide Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsored essay competition with more than 100,000 participants. This year, the VFW Patriot's Pen competition theme was "Why I Honor the American Flag." All grade 8 students participated in the essay contest and seven of the entries were selected for the contest at the VFW Post level. St. Anne School swept the competition and won first, second, and third place. 
The Patriot's Pen is a nationwide Veterans of Foreign Wars sponsored essay competition with more than 100,000 participants. This year, the VFW Patriot's Pen competition theme was "Why I Honor the American Flag." Jack Durish, the youth programs chairman for the Dana Point Post, was St. Anne School’s liaison and contact. All grade 8 students participated in the essay contest and seven of the entries were selected for the contest at the VFW Post level. St. Anne School swept the competition and won first, second, and third place. Congratulations to the following students who won the Dana Point VFW Post Patriot's Pen Competition:
 
First Place: Sofia O'Keefe
Second Place: Maggie Knauft
Third Place: Ashley Mason
 
Mr. Lay announced the results to the grade 8 class in early December. Last week, the students and their parents attended the VFW Post 9934 Dana Point monthly meeting where the students were recognized for their achievement. They were each awarded with a certificate, medal, and monetary prize. Sofia O'Keefe's essay will advance to the district level.
