Cub Scout Pack 872 Starts Its Engines!

Cub Scout Pack 872 kicked off a new calendar year full of Den and Pack activities with its annual Pinewood Derby race. This thrilling event gives Scouts the opportunity to build their own cars and fulfill their “need for speed” as their souped-up wooden vehicles hurtle down the track at speeds approaching 20 miles per hour! Scouts won all kinds of awards and trophies from best design to top speed. As you can see from the pictures, this is an event that will be long remembered by these young Scouts.

The Blue & Gold Banquet and Call to Leadership

In other news, we will be having our Blue & Gold Banquet on February 10 to send off our highest ranked Scouts (the Webelos II) as they move on to Boy Scouts. We’re very blessed to have both a Cub Scout and Boy Scout troop right here in our St. Anne community.

With the move of the Webelos II to Boy Scouts, there are now a number of open volunteer leadership roles available in Pack 872. This is a unique opportunity for those looking to participate in a vibrant, time-tested organization dedicated to developing boys and girls into exemplary citizens and young leaders. Pack 872 is a 100 percent volunteer organization and we welcome those looking to participate and give back to the community.

Below is a quick overview of the Pack 872 leadership positions:

Committee Chairman – Chair/set up agenda for committee meetings, interface with OC Boy Scouts leadership and St. Anne charter representatives, and overall pack decision-making.
Treasurer – Set/maintain budgets, distribute funds, and manage bank accounts.
Secretary – Record minutes of committee meetings, support pack calendar, and communications
Events Leader(s) – Plan and coordinate pack events (i.e. Pinewood Derby, Camping, Volunteer Events)
Asst. Cub Master – Support the Cub Master in planning and executing pack meetings
Popcorn Kernel – Lead annual popcorn fundraising event – our most important event to fund activities.
As a reminder, our Cub Scouting program is also open to Cub Girls, as well as Cub Boys. In fact, we already have a First Grade Tiger Den of Cub Scout up and running and are looking to expand into other grades.

What do Cub Scouts do?

Cub Scouts do fun things with other kids! They get to wear a cool uniform, go places, and see things. They play all kinds of sports and build things, like racecars, boats, and birdhouses. Want to learn a secret code? Want to learn about wild animals? One of the best things about Cub Scouting are the activities you get to do: camping, hiking, racing model cars, going on field trips, or doing projects that help your hometown and the people who live there. Cub Scouting means “doing!”
