Acclaimed TaikoProject Exposes Students to Innovative Performing Arts

St. Anne School Kindergarten through grade 5 students were treated to a special performance last Friday by the acclaimed TaikoProject, an innovative taiko drummers group using the ancient Japanese form of percussion, performed modern and traditional drumming with an innovative aesthetic. Students also had the opportunity to perform alongside the group.

Students also had the opportunity to perform alongside the group.
 
Part of the Segerstrom Center's ArtsTeach Program, the group has won numerous awards, and has performed and recorded with numerous celebrities including, but not limited to, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Usher, and Alicia Keys.

Since September, music teacher Karen Franson has taught students in grades 1 through 5 bucket drumming. “This assembly perfectly reinforced everything I have been teaching the students so far this year,” said Mrs. Franson. “We are hoping to bring in different aspects of performing arts a few times a year to expose and enlighten our students.”
